Gelato Day 2025: Italian artisanal gelato takes center stage in Europe
On March 24th, like every year, gelato chefs and lovers across Europe unite to celebrate Gelato Day, the only day that the European Parliament has dedicated to a food. It’s a unique occasion to promote artisanal gelato throughout Europe, always a symbol of quality, authenticity, and local connection, and to support the production of high-quality traditional artisanal gelato, one of the few products able to unite appreciation from young and old alike across the globe.
A special feature of Gelato Day is the Taste of the Year proposed for 2025 in all participating gelato shops on this day. The Taste of the Year 2025 is “Hallelujah”, sponsored by Diocesan and promoted by the Jubilee of Mercy Foundation and MASAF – Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry. The official recipe was selected during the Artglace competition at Sigep – The World Food Experience 2025: a delicious gianduia with toasted hazelnuts, enriched by a variegation of chocolate. Celebrations for the Day will begin on Sunday, March 23rd, with the Taste of the Year offered to pilgrims, accompanied by a charity fundraiser in Piazza Pio XII, in the heart of San Pietro. Finally, on March 24th, the Taste the Year will be available in all participating gelato shops, while the original version, according to the official recipe, will be revisited by gelato artisans across Europe with ingredients and inspirations from their local areas.
This year, the Made in Italy brand has also involved the Gambero Rosso, which will also engage the Gelato Guide’s gelato shops to take part in the celebrations and prepare the Taste of the Year: with skill, technique, but above all passion, offering unexpected variations of the Taste of the Year.
All information on the upcoming edition of Gelato Day is available on the website www.gelatoday.com, as well as on the official social media profiles because there’s nothing better than sharing an excellent artisanal gelato.
