Shaker: bar with a robot bartender

Makr Shakr, the world’s leading producer of robotic bartending systems, has announced the opening of its first flagship bar, Shaker, in its hometown city of Turin, Italy. The venue features a robot bartender that can serve coffee and drinks, aiming to innovate Italy’s tradition-oriented coffee culture.

Toni Compatto features a modular robotic arm capable of crafting over 60 beverages per hour. Its system boasts an extensive menu of coffee drinks, ranging from the classic Italian cappuccino to strong espressos, to iced lattes, or any refreshing coffee blended drinks. Using a selection of 70 different bottles suspended from the bar’s ceiling, Toni showcases an innovative blend of mixology allowing patrons to experience unique and personalized drinks. Sensors guide the mechanical arm to pick the correct bottle and dispense the precise amount of each ingredient from the attached dosers, ensuring accuracy in every drink. Ordering is simple and interactive via a tablet, allowing customers to choose their drink and track its progress on a display before collecting it at one of the designated delivery spots on the counter.

As Shaker emphasizes the importance of human-robot synergies, the bar manager role is vital in ensuring that robotic precision is complemented by the warmth of human presence. Every drink can be personalized upon request. The robot assembles the ingredients, while the bar manager adds the finishing touches with special garnishes such as mint, rosemary, or lime twists for cocktails, and whipped cream or cocoa powder for coffee-based drinks.
